Marcon was formed as a fully independent company in 1979, to provide a consultancy service to all parties involved in the marine industry, covering a wide spectrum of activities associated with marine surveying, ranging from large commercial vessels, including cargo handling, shipment, and operations, down to workboats and private leisure craft, with the main items being defined as follows :- General Superintendency

Since formation the company has been actively involved in all of the above activities throughout the UK and on a world wide basis, for a wide range of commercial clients, including ship owners, ship managers, charterers, port authorities, shippers, receivers, underwriters, P & I Clubs, Lawyers, Classification Societies etc.,
The company is also actively involved in the survey of sail or motor leisure craft on behalf of private clients, and is approved by the Society of Consulting Marine Engineers and Ship Surveyors, an MCA appointed Certifying Authority, to conduct Code of Practice Surveys for small commercial vessels.
The company has undertaken the planning and supervision of loading or unloading of a wide range of heavy lift or project cargoes, and is regularly involved in the performance of draught (draft) surveys or stevedore damage surveys.
Condition surveys prior to sale/purchase, charter, or management, have been carried out on a wide variety of commercial vessels, ranging from small workboats/tenders, tugs, dredgers etc., up to Self-unloading and Cape-size bulk carriers, LPG carriers, and VLCC's.
Preparation of technical drawings, safety manuals, operational and procedure manuals, and specifications for repair or modification, has been carried out for a wide range of applications and ship types, for a number of commercial clients
The company was previously appointed as MARPOL Surveyors by the Department of Transport, and as non-exclusive surveyors to Bureau Veritas.
We are pleased to be able to state that the great majority of our clients have continued to utilise our services after our initial appointment on their behalf, as a result we do not carry out any significant level of advertising, finding that our record of return orders and recommendations from existing clients represents one of the best forms of advertising.
